High Tech Design Firm Values Diversity to Promote Innovation

90-year-old Barbara Beskind works for IDEO, a tech company based in Silicone Valley renowed for its development of the first mouse for Apple along with other inventions. When Beskind heard IDEO's founder emphasize the value of demographic diversity on staff, she applied and was soon hired to help develop tech solutions to meet the needs of her aging peers.

As a child, Beskind wanted to study Engineering but, like many women of her time, she was funneled into Home Economics instead. At 90 years old, Beskind is pursuing her dreams of becoming a designer and inventor. Her contribution and insight into the needs of her demographic is an invaluable addition to the work of IDEO.
